As a child or young person, you have a right to expect that adults will make sure you're safe and do not get harmed. You also have a responsibility to do what you can to keep yourself and other people safe.

You have a right not to be abused or neglected.

Sometimes the adults around us don't or can't do what they should to keep us safe. Sometimes they put us at risk of harm because of the things they do (like hitting us or touching us in a way we don't want), or things they don't do (not making sure we've got enough to eat, or that we're warm at home, or not making sure we've got proper clothes to wear). Sometimes children and young people the same age as us or a just a bit older can harm us. Bullying is one way this can happen. They don't have a right to do that.

There's information on this website about what you can do if you feel you're at risk of harm. Have a look at the menu options on the left hand side.

Remember - If you're being harmed or feel you're at risk of being harmed...

IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT.

Nobody has a right to harm you. Tell someone about it.
