'Safeguarding Children in Scotland who may have been Trafficked'
In recognition that child trafficking is an issue affecting Scottish society, the Scottish Government published this guidance in February 2009.
The guidance shows that this is an issue in relation to children trafficked into Scotland from abroad, from Scotland to abroad and from one part of the UK to another.
The guidance describes what the experiences of children who are trafficked might have been. It shows how this might make them particularly vulnerable and fearful of those they think represent 'authority' and/or 'the state'.
The guidance also points out that professionals currently work to protect and support children and young people within an existing legislative, policy and practice framework. And that good professional practice needs be applied whether the child in question is a victim of trafficking or not.
